A Franciscan Blessing
May God bless you with discomfort
At easy answers, half-truths,
And superficial relationships
So that you may live deep within your heart.
May God bless you with anger
At injustice, oppression,
And exploitation of people,
So that you may work for
Justice, freedom and peace.
May God bless you with tears
To shed for those who suffer pain,
Rejection, hunger and war,
So that you may reach out your hand
To comfort them and
To turn their pain to joy
And may God bless you
With enough foolishness
To believe that you can
Make a difference in the world,
So that you can do
What others claim cannot be done
To bring justice and kindness
To all our children and the poor.

Bendición Franciscana
Que Dios te bendiga con la incomodidad,
Frente a las respuestas fáciles, las medias verdades,
las relaciones superficiales,
Para que seas capaz de profundizar dentro de tu corazón.
Que Dios te bendiga con la ira,
Frente a la injusticia, la opresión y la explotación de la gente,
Para que puedas trabajar por la justicia, la libertad y la paz.
Que Dios te bendiga con lágrimas,
Para verterlas por aquellos que sufren dolor, rechazo, hambre y guerra,
Para que seas capaz de extender tu mano y reconfortarlos,
Y convertir su dolor en alegría.
Y que Dios te bendiga con suficiente locura,
Para creer que tú puedes hacer una diferencia en este mundo.
Para que tú puedas hacer,
Lo que otros proclaman imposible hacer.

In this Advent season we await the coming of Christ
Child of promise come,
Revealer of God come,
Bringer of life come,
Come to the beaten and the battered,
Come to the despised and rejected
Come to all in whom the divine image is still distorted
We wait in joyful expectation.
Come not as an distant emperor but as a helpless babe
Come not as a prince in a gold palace, but as a displaced and frightened refugee
Come not as a man of power, but in love and compassion
Come to those outcast like shepherds in the field
Come to foreigners like Magi watching from afar
Come to rich and poor, young and old, male and female,
We wait in hopeful anticipation
Come to bless all creation with your love
Come to bring salvation on the earth
Come to rule with justice and in peace
Come Child of promise, open the windows of our hearts
Come Christ of compassion, open the doors of our homes
Come Prince of Peace, open the pathways to our lives
We wait with all the peoples of the earth
Child of hope we welcome your coming

to be loved as to love
for it is in giving that we receive

The Examen of Consciousness ~ A Prayer to God
God, thank you.
I thank you, God, for always being with me, but
especially, I am grateful that you are with me
right now.
God, send your Holy Spirit upon me.
God, let the Holy Spirit enlighten my mind and
warm my heart that I may know where and
how we have been together this day.
God, let me look at my day.
God, where have a felt your presence, seen your face,
heard your word this day?
God , where have I ignored you, run from you,
perhaps even rejected you this day?
God, let me be grateful and ask forgiveness.
God, I thank you for the times this day we have been
together and worked together.
God, I am sorry for the ways I have offended you
by what I have done or what I did not do.
God, stay close.
God, I ask that you draw me ever closer to you this
day and tomorrow.
God, you are the God of my life – thank you.

en este momento.
Dios, envía tu Espíritu Santo sobre mí.
Dios, deja que el Espíritu Santo ilumine mi mente
y mi corazón abrigue para que yo pueda saber dónde
y cómo hemos estado juntos el día de hoy.
Dios, permíteme examinar mi día.
Dios, ¿dónde he sentido tu presencia, visto tu rostro,
oído tu palabra el día de hoy?
Dios, ¿cuándo te he ignorado, huido de Ti,

You are the God who is simple, direct
clear with us and for us
You have committed yourself to us
You have said yes to us in creation
yes, to us in our birth
yes to us in our baptism
yes to us in our awakening this day
But we are of another kind
More accustomed to ¨perhaps, maybe,
we´ll see
Left in wonderment and ambiguity
We live our lives not back to your yes
But out of our endless ¨perhaps¨
So we pray for your mercy this day
that we may live yes back to you
Yes with our time
Yes with our money
Yes with our sexuality
Yes with our strength and with our weakness
Yes to our neighbor
Yes and no longer ¨perhaps¨
In the name of your enfleshed yes to us
Even Jesus who is our yes into your future. Amen.
