Come Lord

Posted in Poems, prayers from history at 4:00 am by davebayne

Come Lord, Come Wisdom, Love, and Power,
Open our ears to hear;
Let us not miss the accepted hour;
Save, Lord, by Love or Fear.

prayer for connection

You are the vine
lush and green
growing from rich soil
roots deep and drink in life
flowing through you
into me.

I have life because of you
and draw strength from you
bear fruit that is born from you
the Vine.

Amen.

alive can’t die

Posted in New Testament, prayers from the Bible, prayers i made up tagged , , , , at 5:00 am by arthur

Jesus said,
“I am the resurrection and the life,
the one who believes in me will live,
even though they die;
and whoever lives by believing in me
will never die.
Do you believe this?”
(John 11:25-26)

I want this life today-
if I die, I will live,
so I never will die.
This is the power of eternal life!

Give me this life Jesus,
I believe.

Amen

John 10

Posted in New Testament, prayers i made up tagged , , at 5:00 am by arthur

You know me, and you love me
You give up your very life for me.
Yes, you did it once – for all:
salvation
redemption
eternal life.

You are like a shepherd
guiding and protecting your people,
calling us by name – by name.
And you fight for us,
every day,
protect us.
Defending us to the death,
yours, not ours.

The Prayer of Little Flowers Community

Posted in Contemporary Prayers at 4:00 am by davebayne

Based on Sermon on the Mount:

Lord and Creator, let us embrace the costly blessings which you desire for us, blessings that confound the wisdom and strength of this world. Teach us to be your agents of preservation in a world touched by death, and beacons of hope in a world shrouded in darkness.

Transform us into your image through the crucible of the cross, writing your mandates upon our hearts, made pure by you perfect love. Embolden us to be your ambassadors, living as representatives of your holy kingdom, stirring in us your love for others, especially for those who would seek to destroy us because of you.

Make us decrease so that you might increase, as a watching world sees you, not us. Daily we declare that your priorities are ours, even before our own needs and desires. Every moment we live, we live for your glory—the glory of a loving Father and a just King. Free us of any distraction, craving or anxiety that would keep us from fully following you.

For we acknowledge that everything we could possibly need is yours to give us.

Remind us of our sinful brokenness and your gift of grace as we encounter brokenness in others. You are the answer to our every question. you are the treasure that we desperately seek, and it is you who invite us into your salvation, as prodigals returning to the Father’s embrace.

Keep us upon your path of righteousness and justice, bearing the good fruit of your Spirit, for it is on you, Lord Jesus, that all hope is built, for all of creation, now and forever more.

Amen

A Merry Heart

Posted in praise tagged , , , , , , , , at 5:00 am by blync77

He that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.

The joy of the Lord is your strength.—The kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.—Be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

By him . . . let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.—Sorrowful, yet always rejoicing.—We glory in tribulations also.

Yes ~ Sí by Walter Brueggemann

Posted in Brueggemann Prayers, Contemporary Prayers, Prayers in Spanish at 4:00 am by davebayne

You are the God who is simple, direct
clear with us and for us
You have committed yourself to us
You have said yes to us in creation
yes, to us in our birth
yes to us in our baptism
yes to us in our awakening this day

But we are of another kind
More accustomed to ¨perhaps, maybe,
we´ll see
Left in wonderment and ambiguity

We live our lives not back to your yes
But out of our endless ¨perhaps¨

So we pray for your mercy this day
that we may live yes back to you
Yes with our time
Yes with our money
Yes with our sexuality
Yes with our strength and with our weakness
Yes to our neighbor
Yes and no longer ¨perhaps¨

In the name of your enfleshed yes to us
Even Jesus who is our yes into your future. Amen.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tú eres el Dios que es simple, directo
claro con nosotros y por nosotros
Te has compremetido con nosotros
Nos has dicho sí en la creación
Sí en nuestro nacimiento
Sí en nuestro despertar este día
Pero nosotros somos de otro tipo
Más acostumbrados al ¨tal vez, quizás
ya veremos¨
Dejados en asombro y abiguedad
Vivimos nuestras vidas no respondiendo a tu sí
Sino con nuestros interminables ¨talvez¨
Así que oramos por tu misericordia este día para que podamos vivir un sí por respuesta
Sí con nuestro tiempo
Sí con nuestro dinero
Sí con nuestra sexualidad
Sí con nuestra fuerza y con nuestra debilidad
Sí con nuestro prójimo
Si y nunca más ¨talvez¨
En el nombre de tu sí encarnado para nosotros
Jesús quien es nuestro sí a tu futuro. Amen.
You will make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.         Psalm 16:11
O God of love and forgiveness, so fill my heart with the spirit of Jesus that I will be quick to return love for evil.
Mother Teresa Prayer for Peace ~ Oración por la paz
Posted in Classic Prayers, Contemporary Prayers, Prayers in Spanish at 4:00 am by davebayne
Prayer for Peace
Mother Teresa
Lead me from death to life
from lies to truth
Lead me from despair to hope
from fear to trust
Lead me from hatred to love
from war to peace
Let peace fill our heart,
our world, our universe…
peace, peace, peace.
Oración por la paz
Madre Teresa
Guíame desde la muerte hacia la vida
de mentiras a la verdad
Guíame desde el desconcierto a la esperanza
de temor a confianza
Guíame desde el odio hacia el amor
de guerra a la paz
Haga que la paz llene nuestro corazón
nuestro mundo, nuestro universo…
paz, paz, paz.
Righteousness & Peace Have Kissed
Posted in creeds, hope tagged , , , , , , at 5:00 am by blync77
Jesus Christ the righteous: the propitiation for our sins.
Toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be.  And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee.  I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat.
Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?  But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.  Let Israel hope in the Lord:  for with the Lord there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.  And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.–All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:  whom god hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins.
