hear their cries

Posted in 24-7 Prayer tagged , , at 5:00 am by arthur

This is what the LORD says: Do what is just and right. Rescue from the hand of his oppressor the one who has been robbed. Do no wrong or violence to the alien, the fatherless or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.

Jeremiah 22:3

Lord God, help us not to shut our ears to the cries of the oppressed because we cannot see them. May we take action towards protecting the needs of those being robbed of resources and rights that are rightfully theirs. Amen

No bribes

Posted in 24-7 Prayer tagged , at 5:00 am by arthur

You are not to distort justice or show favouritism, and you are not to accept a bribe, for a gift blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of even the upright.”

Deuteronomy 16:19

Lord God, May you give us the ability to resist the temptation to accept or to facilitate bribes in subtle or obvious circumstances. May we shine a light by refusing to take part in any unethical practices that compromise your truth. Amen.

Calling on your name

Posted in 24-7 Prayer tagged , , at 6:00 am by arthur

Lord God, We repent for calling on your name and not living up to your standards. We ask that as individuals and nations that claim to know you, the evidence of our proclamation will be seen not in our words but in our conduct, affecting all spheres of our communities. Amen

Guard us from Greed

Posted in 24-7 Prayer tagged , , at 7:00 am by arthur

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”

1 Timothy 6:10

Lord God, Help us not to be driven by greed through seeking money, success and power above you. Teach us to seek your kingdom of justice and compassion and place the love of God and people above money. Amen

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

This is good, and pleases God our Saviour.”

1 Timothy 2:1-6

Lord God, We pray for our leaders to have integrity and act with justice. Bring your conviction regarding the any misuse of public funds, abuse of authority or perversion of justice. May they be good stewards. Amen

The Welcoming Prayer :: Father Thomas Keating

Posted in Contemporary Prayers at 12:24 am by davebayne

Welcome, welcome, welcome.
I welcome everything that comes to me today
because I know it’s for my healing.
I welcome all thoughts, feelings, emotions, persons,
situations, and conditions.
I let go of my desire for power and control.
I let go of my desire for affection, esteem,
approval and pleasure.
I let go of my desire for survival and security.
I let go of my desire to change any situation,
condition, person or myself.
I open to the love and presence of God and
God’s action within. Amen.

The Canticle of Brother Sun :: Saint Francis of Assisi

Posted in Ancient Prayers, Classic Prayers, Franciscan Prayers, Saint Francis at 2:29 am by davebayne

Most high, all powerful, all good Lord!
All praise is Yours, all glory, all honor, and all blessing.

To You, alone, Most High, do they belong.
No mortal lips are worthy to pronounce Your name.

Be praised, my Lord, through all Your creatures,
especially through my lord Brother Sun,
who brings the day; and You give light through him.
And he is beautiful and radiant in all his splendor!
Of You, Most High, he bears the likeness.

Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars;
in the heavens You have made them bright, precious and beautiful.

Be praised, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air,
and clouds and storms, and all the weather,
through which You give Your creatures sustenance.

Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Water;
she is very useful, and humble, and precious, and pure.

Be praised, my Lord, through Brother Fire,
through whom You brighten the night.
He is beautiful and cheerful, and powerful and strong.

Be praised, my Lord, through our sister Mother Earth,
who feeds us and rules us,
and produces various fruits with colored flowers and herbs.

Be praised, my Lord, through those who forgive for love of You;
through those who endure sickness and trial.

Happy those who endure in peace,
for by You, Most High, they will be crowned.

Be praised, my Lord, through our sister Bodily Death,
from whose embrace no living person can escape.
Woe to those who die in mortal sin!
Happy those she finds doing Your most holy will.
The second death can do no harm to them.

Praise and bless my Lord, and give thanks,
and serve Him with great humility.

A Celtic Prayer :: A Haven

Posted in Celtic Prayers, Prayer Books at 7:43 pm by davebayne

A HAVEN

Lord, take this song
and fill it with Your presence.
Let it bring a word of hope
to weary care-full hearts.
Take this song
and fill it, Lord.
Fill it with Yourself.

Lord, take my life
and fill it with Your praises.
Let me speak a word of peace
that Jesus brings in me.
Take this life
and fill it, Lord.
Fill it with Yourself.

Lord, take this place
and fill it
with Your blessing.
Let it be a haven
where the
poor in spirit
sing.
Take this place
and fill it, Lord.
Fill it with Your praise.

Prayer Liturgy on 50th Anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream”

Posted in Contemporary Prayers, liturgy, unity at 7:14 pm by davebayne

May we dream of a world made new,
Where together we shout for justice,
And as one we fight against oppression.
May we dream of a world made new,
Where together we seek God’s righteousness
And as one we sing God’s praise.
May we dream of a world made new,
Where together we climb God’s mountain,
And as one we enter the promised land.
May we dream of a world made new,
Where together we proclaim the good news of God’s kingdom,
And as one we enjoy its peace, and abundance and love.

(Adapted from Psalm 72:1-10, & Amos 5:24)
God let your justice and fairness flow like a river that never runs dry
Please help those of us who are rich to be honest and fair just like you, our God.
May we who have such abundance be honest and fair with all your people, especially the poor.
Let peace and justice rule every mountain and fairness flow as a river that never runs dry.
God let your justice and fairness flow like a river that never runs dry
May we your people defend the poor, rescue the homeless, and crush everyone who hurts them.
May we be as helpful as rain that refreshes the ground, to those who are treated unjustly.
Let the wholeness and fairness of your kingdom live forever like the sun and the moon.
God let your justice and fairness flow like a river that never runs dry
Because you our God rescue the homeless and have pity on those who hurt
May we who are rich stand up for the poor and let peace abound until the moon fades to nothing.
Let God’s kingdom of justice and fairness reach from sea to sea, across all the earth.
God let your justice and fairness flow like a river that never runs dry
Amen.
