Zechariah 7
God, help us to live your instructions:
Treat one another justly.
Love your neighbors.
Be compassionate with each other.
Don’t take advantage of widows, orphans, visitors, and the poor.
Don’t plot and scheme against one another—that’s evil.’
You have called, we will listen.
When we call, we ask you to listen.
Amen.

An African creed
We reject the imported, colonial narrative.
We reject the media as sole arbiters of truth.
We reject celebrity and the living of second hand dreams though false images of success.
We reject boredom in a world brimming with potential.
We seek authentic unmediated relationships with the world, with the earth, one another and with the Divine.
We look to Christ as our mediator, who will liberate us and lead us into all truth.
This creed ended a liturgy called “Mediated” from the first South African gathering of the Amahoro Institute in Cape Town in July 2008. Thanks to Nic Paton for the text.
